Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Schengen cascade rule?

The cascade rule is a tiered system whereby Turkish citizens residing in Türkiye who use their previous Schengen visas in compliance earn progressively longer multiple-entry visas at each application: short → 6 months → 1 year → 3 years → 5 years.

Who does the cascade rule cover?

It covers Turkish citizens who reside in Türkiye and apply from Türkiye. Truck drivers are excluded from this regime. The rule applies only to short-stay (type C) visas.

How long will my first visa be?

On a first application you are usually granted only a short-stay or limited multiple-entry visa covering your trip. If you use it in compliance, your next application moves up to the 6-month multiple-entry stage.

What is required to move up a tier?

You must have used your previous visa without overstaying — entering and exiting on time — and submit the new application within 1–2 years of the previous visa's expiry.

Does Vizametre give an official result?
